2.0 Solution | Anti-Microbial Surfaces

In today's environment hygiene is extremely important when working with tactile signs and objects. One key element of the DE powder coated graphics system is an Anti-Microbial Surface. Because of the molecular sublimation of ink into material during the powder coating system all surfaces can be cleaned efficiently of virus carrying microbes. For designers and end users seeking to specify powder coated graphics and organizations that already have installed on signs, buildings, furniture and themed environments we offer the following recommendations.

Specification: While regular powder coated surfaces are 4-10 times thicker than paint and are almost impervious to flaking or peeling, for surfaces that receive frequent touching like furniture or interpretive panels we recommend the specification of an extra Anti-Microbial Finish as part of the process. This extra finish has been tested to more quickly reduce microbe survival on the surface without cleaning and is used extensively in healthcare environments. Cleaning: Whether an Anti-Microbial coating is added or not powder coated graphic surfaces should be cleaned regularly if utilized in tactile environments. Effective cleaning of powder coated surfaces is similar to the cleaning of all metal and tile surfaces. Using a moderate water spay to dislodge dirt and a mild detergent or soap. For heavier dirt and grime a cleaning pad can be used with detergent cleaner. A full cleaning specification is available here.
